Friendship Bracelets at La Grande Boissière
I recently spent time in a Year 3 classroom at the International School of Geneva, where students come from many different countries and cultures. We talked about The HOME Project and what it means to arrive somewhere new, an idea the students connected with easily given their own international experiences and school community.
After our discussion, the class took part in a friendship bracelet activity. Each of the 24 students made two bracelets—one for themselves and one for a refugee child living in Greece. Together, we chose colors and patterns that symbolised who they are, and each student wrote a short letter to send along with their bracelet.
In February, I will be visiting The HOME Project and delivering the bracelets and letters to the children there. It was inspiring to see how naturally the students understood the importance of welcoming others, and I’m excited to bring this activity into more classrooms in the future.
